SGU 2026: What digital monitoring can reveal about continuous bladder irrigation

What actually happens during continuous bladder irrigation in everyday clinical practice? How often is irrigation interrupted, and how much do treatment patterns vary between hospitals?

These were some of the questions explored in a multicentre evaluation presented as a poster at SGU 2026 in St. Gallen. The analysis was based on digitally recorded bladder irrigation data from five urology centres across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The data provide new insights into irrigation patterns, duration and interruptions – highlighting the potential of objective data to better understand and continuously improve existing clinical workflows.

For us, SGU also provided an opportunity to discuss these findings with urologists and nursing professionals and compare the data with their day-to-day clinical experience. Because ultimately, digitalisation is not about collecting more data. It is about making the right information available where it can make a difference in clinical practice.
